Blog Moved to TheQuirkyDesigner.com!

April 28, 2010

In order to do some more custom things with the design, I relocated the blog to http://www.thequirkydesigner.com.  Check it out to keep up with what’s going on with Dodeline Design!

Slept Through the Alarm

April 27, 2010

Don’t you hate that.  I had grand plans for this morning, but it looks like those will be somewhat abbreviated.  That’s okay though, I was very productive yesterday and probably needed the sleep!

Check out this concept board I did and presented on Friday for Suite Life Beauty Studios in Charleston…I’m very excited to get started making it happen!  It was so much fun to do a board and a few quick sketches and get off the computer for once.

Committing to Blogging For Real this Time…

April 26, 2010

I decided today after fighting and struggling to find the best e-commerce solution for WP websites, that I really should start blogging because I think it would help me and anyone else who stumbles upon my humble little website.  First of all, I have spent hours messing with various plugins, so it may help someone else and save them a little time, plus help me when I can’t remember next week which one I liked and which one I didn’t!

So it’s definitely going on the list to make this blog look better!  Coming soon.

Okay, so here’s my rundown of what I’ve found on the WP e-commerce plugins:

– WP E-commerce: this one is supposed to be the best, and I liked it when I got it installed, but I have had more problems and error messages come up than I count.  I’m really frustrated with that one.

– Mals-E: I’ve heard great things about this one and I checked it out, but I wish they had a specific WP plugin because I couldn’t customize the cart to look like the website.

– Ecwid was okay.  I thought ti was a little cookie cutter, and it did some funny things immediately with the CSS and layout, and plus the stylesheet was so comprehensive it spazzed out everytime I tried to save it.  I also didn’t like that you had to maintain the products offsite.

– Eshop was pretty neat actually, I liked it a lot.  Downfall: only accepts Paypal.

– QuickShop was okay too, but just wasn’t wild about it and now I don’t even remember the problem I had with it.

– Moving on to OSCommerce now.  Wish me luck guys.

Dodeline Design Credited on Extreme Home Makeover

April 21, 2010

When Extreme Home Makeover came to Myrtle Beach, SC, in January, I filled out the form to offer my services not expecting anything to come out of it.  You can imagine how shocked I was when the phone rang less than two hours later!

I spoke with several of the producers over the course of the next couple days and had the opportunity to offer thoughts on some of the design plans and draw up sketches and visualizations to help the construction team.  Although I wasn’t able to actually get to the site, it was still an awesome experience and I would love to get to help again one day.

Here it is…

April Fool’s Day!

April 1, 2010

Boy, I am really going to have to get more on the ball with this blogging thing!  Luckily I have been really busy with client’s websites, so not a lot of time to work on my own.

Things are going really well with working on logos, websites, etc.  I want to welcome some of my new clients: Charleston Shucker Company, Runmigo.com (coming soon), AskHeatherAshley.com, and a few others that I know I’m forgetting!

Have you checked out Google today?  It’s no longer Google, it’s Topeka!  I love their sense of humor; they even wrote up an entire “analysis” of why it was a good idea to change their name to Topeka.  Too bad they didn’t change it to Monck’s Corner for us South Carolinians!

My stationery line is still in development and I recently added this new mini thank you card which is kind of fun and bright for spring.  I think my next muse is going to be a line of cards for the “men in your life” — something less girly to keep around for the guys’ birthdays, graduations, etc.

And I need to up my game on this blog — it’s pretty bland for now, but I’ll focus on getting my clients’ sites looking amazing for the moment!

Welcome!

February 20, 2010

I’m starting up this blog to keep you posted on what’s going on with dodeline design.  Hopefully I’ll also find the time to post any of the other cool websites, products, etc. that I come across!

To start the week, I did a little updating on the dodeline design website, but I’ve got to switch gears to client sites now!  I’m still hard at work on the Shop N Swap Sales website & print graphics.  This week I’ll be starting work on Atlanta Event Guide Online, Homespun Hoops — thankfully, I’ve got lots of projects!

I was so excited this past week to receive a few great gifts from clients….Growing Up Green sent over one of the t-shirts with the logo I did for them, and Serena at Rare Sophistication sent me a beautiful bracelet as a thank you gift.  Thanks so much guys!

Last week I finished up the World Warrior Training basic website setup & logo for Aimee & Than….they were wonderful to work with and I wish you the best of luck!

My passion project — www.itskizmit.com — is being pushed back at least a week unfortunately.  That’s the life of the freelancer I suppose!

More coming soon!
